We help people in our community learn about plants and gardening.

What’s coming up

  • PlantFest - learning about seed starting

    PlantFest 2025

PlantFest, our annual plant sale and garden festival, took place on Oct. 11 at Blackwood Farm Park.

It was a chilly, windy day but we had a good turnout! Our plant sale - featuring more than 3,000 plants - attracted eager shoppers.

Visitors enjoyed gardening exhibits, kids’ activities, an art sale, free seed packets, tool sharpening, food, music and more. Community partners had booths and exhibits, too.

Proceeds of the plant sale and art sale will support our community activities.

  • Dealing with Deer

Are you one of the gardeners in our area who try to stay one step ahead of hungry deer? You might include plants in your landscape that deer don’t like to eat, or use substances that can repel deer, or build a deer fence.

Our next “Dig Deeper” talk, on Nov. 16, is about deer issues that local gardeners may face. The speaker is April Boggs Pope, a deer biologist with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.

The free talk will take place from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 16 at the Orange County Library, 137 West Margaret Lane, Hillsborough. Register here.
